This page explains how to get images and other files onto the wiki. You need to be logged in; page editing is limited to the writer group.

Drag a group of files into the visual editor

While editing a page in the visual editor, drag a group of files (two or more) from your file manager and drop them anywhere on the page. A dialog opens listing everything you dropped, where you can:

rename any file before it is uploaded;
add a description and categories that are saved on every file page;
choose what gets inserted — a gallery (the default), individual thumbnails,

 or a list of file links;

set the gallery image height.

Press Upload and insert. The files upload one after another, and the gallery is inserted at the point where you dropped them. Ctrl+Z undoes the insertion (the files stay uploaded).

You can also open the same dialog from the Insert menu → Upload files, which lets you pick files with a file browser instead of dragging.

Helpful to know:

One file at a time is handled by the normal visual editor upload dialog, which

 lets you set alignment, size and a caption — drop a single file to get that instead.

If a name is already taken, the dialog says so and offers to rename, overwrite,

 use the file already on the wiki, or skip it.

If you upload a file that is byte-for-byte identical to one already here, the wiki

 reuses the existing file rather than storing a second copy.

Any file type this wiki accepts works — images, PDFs, and CAD/maker formats such as

 STL, STEP, 3MF and FCStd. Non-image files are inserted as links below the gallery.

Uploading a lot of files at once

To get a large batch onto the wiki without editing a page, use Special:EnhancedUpload. Drop as many files as you like, upload them in one go, and insert them into pages afterwards.

In the source editor

If you edit wikitext instead of using the visual editor, the upload area under the edit box (MsUpload) does the same job: drop files, press Upload all, then Insert gallery.

Gallery syntax

A gallery is plain wikitext, so you can always adjust it by hand:

Useful mode values are packed (default here), traditional, nolines and slideshow.

Naming and licensing

Give files descriptive names — Landis Gyr Focus AXR-SD teardown.jpg is

 far more useful than IMG_4821.jpg.

Add categories so files can be found later.
Only upload files you have the right to publish.
